Former CIA analysist Larry Johnson recently visited Moscow to meet Sergey Lavrov. He mentioned a Russian oligarch investing in a school teaching classical education including cursive writing.
Hi Ned, your cartoons had me laughing again. And so weird that you posted this the day after we had an amusing experience with handwriting: a young man who came to do an insurance assessment for a roof-leak-ruined carpet needed my husband's signature on his phone. It took about 6 failed efforts for a left hander to sign without triggering the erase button on the left side of the phone. LOL. I don't know what significance such a "signature" has, since anyone could feign a scrawl, which looks nothing like a penned-on-paper signature.
In the bigger scheme, I think we are being "de-bodied" one step at a time, and the skill of hand writing is just one of many procedural memories being erased, or not even encoded, in the human species. All the better for the planned "transitioning" to "post-humans", eh!
Thank goodness for the artists who still use traditional media and get their hands dirty!
Exactly. I've scrawled a digital squiggle on a delivery person's phone screen to 'sign' for a package. Even worse when they photograph the package with my feet in my front doorway and it's sent to my email Inbox as proof of postage; I don't like my doorway or any part of me suddenly wham-bam, out there on the interwebs.
The ability to communicate and articulate is disappearing.
Tonight Bukayo Saka will hopefully play for Arsenal vs. Real Madrid. He appears to be a lovely man, but when interviewed, it's 'yeah' and 'man' and what I might term slang rap music talk. They are paid extraordinary amounts of money, yet can barely manage proper grammatical sentences. I bet his thumbs can work a 'smart' phone.
Language. Listen for the times 'To be honest' is used. Are you usually dishonest?
I was not specific in my post, but I'm left-handed. I've spent a life time managing check books and diaries designed for those right-handed. I have used my right-hand to at least be able to form a legible word and e.g. clean my teeth with my left-hand sometimes when my right is the natural inclination. I still have to think which is which when giving left-right directions to a driver.
Yes, in this digital world, I am very aware of scanning and publishing real hand made imagery.
Alex and I are both left handed. As a teenager during boring classes I used to write right-handed to amuse myself - actually liked doing mirror-writing. Learning new ways to perform motor tasks is good brain stimulation for us elderlies. It's sad to see the dumbing down of generations, but I have no children or grandchildren, so have not had opportunities to pass on my love of correct grammar and spelling - a dying art in the age of annoying spellcheck corrections. Have you come across the Feldenkrais Method and Alexander Technique, for somatic re-learning of habits? Somatic education was one of my work-life identities along the way.
Alexander Technique, yes. Isn't that to do with posture?
I'd love to go back to school with this head on those shoulders. I was generally bored, but did what I had to; 'o' levels, 'A' levels, degree architecture. Said no to an architectural job and yes to a DJ nightclub 6 nights/week in Soho, London, low pay, but fun social life. Idiot! I was interested in football, rock 'n' roll and girls; anything but 9 to 5.
You do make me laugh, you daft c***, Southern t***. What is it about your lot ?. You told me off about my bad language, on your site... understand why, but in our "New World Order"; think that was wise for both of us.
As for the "Arse nal" ... no comment... but you lot still have outside chance of winning the league, but concentrate on Real Madrid...
PS You were better than us, but hey-ho, but we got a draw somehow. AT least the RS lost...
NO. May I suggest your comment starts with "I THINK I replied...?" but also add on that they are making it more and more difficult to post .. strangely because we are all seemingly in a rush.... SO WHILST WE THINK, we have pushed the "post" or "REPLY" button... we have not had it connect to the site yet... Strange things going on.
Write your "ORIGINAL COMMENT" comment again as I am intrigued.
All you need to do is ask me to leave, because as you know from before - I am not paying as it gives my full personal details away (delete y comment as soon as you read - no worries).

Thanks Rosemary.

I've changed. We are where we are. Onward and up.

You've lost me. Apart from bad language, clear English would help.

I think I replied to your post but AI may have decided otherwise because what I wrote somewhat wittily suddenly disappeared

I've known Peta for some decades. She is a very polite lady.
The payment system for Substack is Stripe. One of Stripe's directors is Mark Carnage. It is what it is.
How did payment come into this ?.

I was trying to explain the machinations of Substack and that it's just another platform....
I've seen & read this!
